Great day out promised as Clonaslee Show set for its 70th edition

IFA President Francie Gorman will be on hand to officially open the Clonaslee Show this Sunday, September 8, for what will be the 70th time that the event has been hosted.

Bad weather, bad luck and a global pandemic have played havoc at various stages over the years but it’s a sign of the enduring quality of the agricultural show and the people involved that it’s still going strong after all these years.

1948 was the first year it was hosted; in more recent times it has moved to its current location adjacent to the Clonaslee Community Centre.

Combining competitions with entertainment and exhibitions, the show has an overall prize fund of €20,000.

Among the attractions on the day:

  • Free bouncing castles and face painting for children
  • Music by Dee Morrissey and Rock on Paddy
  • Tug of War
  • Irish Dancing
  • Vintage Display
  • Pet counter
  • All Ireland Gain Dog competition
  • Poultry tent
  • Draw on the day with €2,500 in prizes
  • Cattle/sheep/equestrian/vegetables/flowers/cookery/crafts/photography competitions and much more

Entry is €10 for adults and children are free.
