Nicole Turner has qualified for her first Paralympic final of the 2024 games in Paris.
This was following a successful display in the La Defence Arena on the opening day of the games this morning.
Turner will make a return to the water this evening. The highly anticipated S6 50-metre freestyle showdown featuring Turner is scheduled to take place at 6:19pm .
The Portarlington born swimmer finished third in her S6 50-metre freestyle heat and was also the fifth fastest of the eight qualifiers with a time of 35.35 seconds.
Teenager Dearbhaile Brady joined Turner in Heat Two in La Defence although her personal best time of 36.45 was not enough for a finals position on her Paralympic debut.
Turner will join her teammate Róisín Ní Riain, who’s S13 100-metre butterfly final is penciled in for 7:15pm.
Ní Riain finished fourth in her heat with a time of 1:06.40, quick enough to earn her a place in the finals as Team Ireland got off to a promising start.
Turner, who won a silver medal at Tokyo 2020, will be looking to make a second finals on Tuesday when she swims in the 50m fly heat at 9:12.
She will be hoping to build on an already impressive year which has seen her winning two bronze and a gold in the European Championships.
