There were excellent results in Heywood Community School yesterday as the 2024 Leaving Cert exam results were unveiled.
Emma Carney was the top achiever as she achieved the maximum score with seven H1s.
A top sports person from Ballyroan, Carney won an All-Ireland basketball title with Heywood CS this year.
Amy Lacey of Ballinakill and Laragh Wilkensen achieved an almost identical set of results.
Laragh was Head Girl in Heywood this year while Emer was Deputy Head Girl.
Principal Eamon Jackman said: “Heywood Community School is thrilled with the outstanding achievements of our Leaving Certificate students in the 2024 examinations.
“Our students have once again demonstrated exceptional dedication, resilience, and academic excellence, with this year’s results reflecting their hard work and commitment over the past six years.
“We are very proud of each student. Their success is a testament not only to their individual efforts but also to the support and encouragement provided by our dedicated teaching staff, supportive parents, and the wider Heywood community.
“Our teachers have gone above and beyond to provide a learning environment that nurtures each student’s potential, even in the face of challenges which have unfolded during their time here including the Covid upheaval.
“The results this year have been remarkable, with many students achieving top grades across a wide range of subjects.
“These achievements will open doors to further education and career opportunities, and we are confident that our students will continue to excel in whatever paths they choose to pursue.
“Whilst headlines may go to Emma Carney who received seven H1s along with Amy Lacey and Laragh Wilkenson who achieved an almost similar scores, it is the many students who managed to achieve and supersede their expectations that we are celebrating.
“It is also fantastic to see that almost all of these managed to achieve excellent scores and combine it with their sporting or extra curricular interests.
“On a personal level, I took great satisfaction chatting to many of the students this morning who visited the school and heard of the plans they have made for their future.
“Many have already secured employment or are accessing apprenticeships with local employers because of a careers fair held in the school in 6th year.
“With the changing employment landscape and demand in certain sectors, students are being very strategic in their career choice and not merely following the media driven route of 3rd level without assessing if it best suits their talents. I think they are to be commended for this.
“On behalf of the entire school, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our Leaving Certificate students.
“We celebrate your success and look forward to hearing about the great things they will accomplish in the future.”
