In Pictures: Host of Laois winners as Tullamore Show 2024 proves a big success

Despite traffic delays and congestion, the Tullamore Show on Sunday, August 11, proved a huge success.

Crowds flocked to Tullamore as the event surpassed its 2023 attendance thanks to huge interest in the agricultural exhibitions and trade stands.

There were plenty of Laois winners too. The champion Simmental was owned by Garrett Behan from Ballyfin.

Tommy, Pauline and Ciaran Fitzgerald from Clonaslee had a reserve champion Belgian Blue.

The reserve champion Parthenaise was owned by Emma Holohan from Stradbally

While Billy Dunne and Grainne Higgins from Errill, had their reserve male champion Belgian Blue

There were record breaking figure for sheep entries this year as well as Odlum’s All Ireland Home Baking championship.

The show’s focus has shifted over the years as there is now a huge emphasis on environmental, social and economic benefits that trees can provide on the farm as a wealth of information was available at the Forestry and Energy section.

After the huge success of the Sustainable Livestock Village of 2023, it was  further enhanced with a speakers corner this year.

Due to the huge success there were some congestion issues and delays as attendance resoundingly surpassed expectations.

Overall the event was a huge success. The committee of the Tullamore Show addressed the attendees in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.

They said: “The 2024 Tullamore Show & FBD National Livestock Show was an outstanding success with the blessing of such good weather and with the terrific weather, this brought the attendees out in their droves from all over the country to attend Ireland’s Premier Show.

“As a committee, we will review all aspects of traffic management and make the necessary adjustments for the 2025 show.

“The Executive of Tullamore Show & FBD National Livestock Show wish to sincerely apologise to those attendees who experienced unacceptable delays.”

Photographer Alf Harvey was on hand to capture the Laois winners.
