The Twin Trees Art and Culture Festival returns this August, offering an enriching blend of artistic exploration, natural beauty, and wellness activities in the picturesque surroundings of Ballinakill.

Running from August 22nd to 25th, the festival invites participants of all ages and skill levels to immerse themselves in a variety of creative and restorative experiences.

En Plein Air Painting
August 22 – 24

A cornerstone of the Twin Trees Festival, the En Plein Air Painting workshop is back by popular demand. This three-day event is designed to cater to both beginners and experienced artists, with a strong emphasis on creating a welcoming and supportive environment for those new to painting.

Participants will have the chance to paint in some of the most stunning locations in Co. Laois, including:

Heywood Gardens: A historic garden designed by Edwin Lutyens, with breathtaking landscapes that offer endless inspiration.

Masslough Lake: A serene setting with woodland trails and lakeside views, perfect for capturing nature’s tranquillity on canvas.

Ballinakill Village: The charming former Charter village with historic architecture and street scenes, providing a variety of subjects for artists to explore.

Guided by expert tutors Jock Nichol and Neal Greig, this workshop will help participants develop their skills, whether they’re picking up a brush for the first time or refining their technique.

Fees: €130 for three days or €50 per day.

New for 2024: Teen Art Workshops
August 22 – 24

We are excited to introduce the Teen Art Workshops to this year’s festival, specifically designed for young artists aged 12-16. Over three days, participants will engage in a range of activities, including:

Drawing Tutorials: Learn the fundamentals of drawing, from basic techniques to more advanced concepts.

Sketchbook Making: Create your own sketchbook, a valuable tool for any artist.

Outdoor Painting: Put your new skills to the test with outdoor painting sessions, using the beautiful surroundings as your inspiration.

No previous experience is required—just bring your enthusiasm and a passion to learn! All materials are provided, making it easy for teens to dive into the creative process.

Fee: €60 (includes all three days and materials).

Yoga in Heywood Gardens
August 25

The festival concludes with a peaceful and rejuvenating Yoga Session in the magical setting of Heywood Gardens on August 25th. Led by Simon Rogers of Blackhill Woods Retreat, this session is a perfect opportunity to unwind and connect with nature. Simon, a passionate yoga teacher and Natural Health and Wellbeing Therapist, will guide participants through a calming practice that caters to all levels of experience.
