This is what I’m studying: Finn Hanneffy (Business and Law)

Our student series, where students from various courses are quizzed on their academic experiences, has returned for another week.

Encompassing all aspects of student life, from coursework to extracurricular activities such as pubs and nightclubs, our goal is to provide prospective college attendees in September with a glimpse into the university experience.

Next to tackle the questions is Finn Hanneffy from Mountrath who is studying Business and Law in UCD.

What are you studying?

Business and Law

Where are you studying?

University College Dublin

Why did you choose to study what you chose?

I always enjoyed business in school and law appealed to me too as I enjoyed problem solving.

What are your plans when you finish College?

I plan to enter a law firm in Dublin on a traineeship then sit my FE – 1 exams to become a solicitor.

Do you think you would like to stay local, or perhaps move away?

Working in London could be an option as there are large firms and I would love to do that. I want to travel with work but I haven’t made any plans yet.

Would you like to move home after college?

I don’t think I’ll move home as I plan to do corporate law and all the jobs for such are in Dublin.

What’s the hardest thing about your course?

The hardest thing is probably learning the specific names of cases and the articles of different laws especially when you have other exams to study for too.

The amount of material that is covered can be a struggle too, sometimes you have to read an entire case just for one point.

What’s your typical college routine?

I’d usually have two or three lectures or tutorials per day so between them I’d usually meet my friends or go to the library.

I’d usually head home then around 5/6pm.

What’s your favourite part of the course?

My favourite part of the course is the difference between quantitative modules like finance or statistical analysis to the legal modules like constitutional law.

I also like that this course allows you to have a wide range of career opportunities from a financial to barrister

What advice would you give to anyone considering choosing to study in UCD?

I would say to anyone thinking of going to UCD definitely go for it, the campus and facilities are fantastic.

Dublin is a fantastic place to leave and really not as expensive as people make it out to be.

If you are lucky enough to get campus accommodation it’s a great way to make friends.
