There was serious style in Ballinakill last week as the students of Heywood Community School gathered for their Debs.

Market Square in the village was where all the commotion was as those in attendance gathered from mid-afternoon.

2 – Portarlington woman claims prestigious Best Dressed award at Galway Races – and €10,000 cash prize

Portarlington woman Davinia Knight was crowned the winner of the ‘Best Dressed Lady at the recent Galway Races.

Thursday always marks Ladies Day at the Galway Races, drawing the biggest crowd of the festival to the Ballybrit venue.

3 – Tributes paid as founding member of Portlaoise Credit Union is laid to rest

Tributes have been paid following the passing of a founding member of Portlaoise Credit Union.

Phil Coughlan, née Dundon, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, aged 89.

There was serious style in Mountrath last week as the students of Mountrath Community School gathered for their Debs.

5 – Laois SHC: Heartbreak for Portlaoise as Rathdowney-Errill strike late to snatch a draw

A last-gasp point from Ross King snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat for Rathdowney-Errill last week in the Laois Senior Hurling Championship.

It was disappointment for Portlaoise who led for the vast majority of the encounter in O’Moore Park.

6 – All Ireland Camogie Final: Profiles of the Laois girls going for glory in Croke Park

The Laois camogie team will make the trip to Croke Park this Sunday for the All Ireland Junior camogie final where they will take on Tipperary.

It is the first game of a triple header of All Ireland camogie finals and will be broadcast live on RTE, throwing in at 1.05pm.

7 – Laois success at Galway Races as Flying Bay bolts up in Ballybrit on Saturday

The Galway Races took place last week at the iconic Ballybrit track and there was Laois success on the Saturday. At odds of 15/2, Flying Bay landed the Bathshack Maiden Handicap flat race at 3.40pm.

Trained by Andrew Kinirons and ridden by Ben Coen, the horse scooped the €10,200 first prize.

8- Laois band The Finns get American tour underway

Laois band The Finns – comprised of Rathdowney brothers Hugh and Ciaran – have brought their original folk music to America this month where they are touring and appearing at some iconic venues and two huge Irish-American festivals.

Their tour starts off at the weekend in Keanes, The Bronx, New York, and Josie Kelly’s in Somers Point, New Jersey. It was the first time The Finns to play both these establishments.

9 – 10 clubs represented in our Round 2 Premier IHC and IHC Team of the Week

The Laois Shopping Centre Premier IHC and IHC saw Round 2 action conclude last week.

From the games, we have picked out our team of the week from the players who impressed.

10 of the 16 clubs who took part have representation.

10 – All eight teams represented on our Laois SHC Team of the Week for Round 2

Round 2 of the Laois Senior Hurling Championship also came to a close and with that came our Team of the Week.

Portlaoise lead the way in this week’s selection with four inclusions after their brilliant performance against Rathdowney-Errill on Saturday.
