Super Saturday with four more football championship matches down for decision

Ballyroan-Abbey v Rosenallis
Laois SFC Round 2 in O’Moore Park at 5.30pm

A chance to become the first team safely through to the Laois SFC quarter finals is up for grabs this evening.

There is a double header in O’Moore Park and the first game is between Ballyroan-Abbey and Rosenallis.

Ballyroan-Abbey got this year’s competition underway with victory over The Heath.

While Rosenallis sprung a surprise in Round 1 as they defeated Stradbally.

Ballyroan-Abbey keeper Paudie McDonald is set to miss out with injury while Killian Byrne is also a doubt.

Charlie Friel is similarly doubtful for Rosenallis after sustaining a hamstring injury for the hurlers last week.

Rosenallis will certainly have a chance but Ballyroan-Abbey should have enough to prevail.

Arles-Killeen v Courtwood
Laois SFC Round 2 in O’Moore Park at 7pm

The second part of the double header sees two teams who predominantly wear white clash.

Arles-Killeen were impressive in their victory over Ballyfin in Round 1.

While Courtwood backed up their Division 1 exploits with a big win over Killeshin.

Arles-Killeen were without Colin Dunne, Andrew Wall and Shane Julian in Round 1 but could welcome all of those players back.

Courtwood were one of the most impressive Round 1 winning teams though and they should have too much and win this.

St Joseph’s v Ballylinan
Laois SFC Round 2 Qualifier in Ratheniska at 7pm

It is a last chance saloon for both St Joseph’s and Ballylinan this evening.

This game was originally scheduled for Stradbally but due to a bereavement, it has been switched to Ratheniska.

St Joseph’s lost out narrowly to Graiguecullen in Round 1 in their first match as defending champions.

They lost Aaron Cooney and Dylan Doyle to injury in that game while they will be without Mikie Dempsey for it all.

Ballylinan were hammered by Portlaoise in Round 1 and their level of absenteeism is even worse.

Alan Farrell and Jamie Farrell are abroad while Ryan Brady is out for the season through injury.

Gary Walsh also missed Round 1 as did Ciaran Fennessy – it is extremely difficuly to see how they can win this.

Mountmellick v Portlaoise
Laois IFC Round 2 Qualifier in Portarlington at 7pm

Once again, it is a case of win or bust in this game for both of the teams involved.

Mountmellick lost to Annanough in Round 1 while Portlaoise were beaten by Crettyard.

A loss for either team here will see them head for the IFC ‘B’ semi finals.

The winner will advance to the quarter finals in three weeks time.

Portlaoise missed a host of chance against Crettyard and if they can improve that, they could win.

While Mountmellick will be smarting after their loss to Annanough and will be due a response.
