Donal Whelan, Doonane, Crettyard, Co Laois passed away peacefully at Waterford University Hospital on Wednesday 7th August 2024. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Brigid, much loved father of Keith, Clodagh, Colin, Patrice and Daniel, grandchildren Finn, Odhrán, Shay and Oisín, sons-in-law Alan and Buds, daughter-in-law Jenny, his brothers and sisters Luke, Alice, John Joe, Eileen, Margaret, Phil and Sarah, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces.
Predeceased by his brothers Pat, Jim, Michael, John and sister Nan.
Donal will repose at Thompson’s Funeral Home, Athy (R14 NX80) on Saturday, 10th August, from 4pm until the conclusion of the Rosary at 6pm.
Arriving at St. Mary’s Church, Mayo, Crettyard (R93 HY94) for Requiem Mass at 11am on Sunday, 11th August. A private cremation will take place on Monday, 12th August. Family flowers only please, donations, if desired, to Irish Cancer Society. HERE
Christopher (Chris) Cole
Tinnakill, Camross, Laois
Died unexpectedly 6th August 2024 at St James Hospital, Dublin. Surrounded by his family, beloved Husband of Matilda, Father of John, James, Josie, Thomas and Margaret. Sadly, missed by his loving wife, family, grandchildren Chloe, Fiona, Stephen, Clare, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and extended family, good neighbours and friends.Ex Bord na Mona and Fas worker.
Reposing in Burkes Funeral Home, Mountrath, Co. Laois, on Friday evening from 6 o’clock with Rosary at 8 o’clock. Removal on Saturday morning to St. Fergal’s Church, Camross for 11 o’clock funeral mass via Tinnakill, followed by burial in the adjoining Cemetery.

Maureen McAllister (née Herbert)
The Beeches, Portlaoise, Laois/Naas, Kildare
Maureen McAllister (née Herbert) – Late of Portlaoise, Naas and Newbridge – 7th August 2024, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, in the exceptional care of all the staff at Our Ladies Hospice, Harolds Cross, Dublin.
Pre-deceased by her former husband Kevin, mother Kitty and father Noel, loving mum of Sharon and Kevin, beloved sister to James, Hannah, Anthony & Noel, sadly missed by her sisters in law and brother in law, nieces and nephews and extended family and large circle of kind neighbours and friends.
Reposing at her home; The Beeches, Forest Park, on Friday, 9th August, from 6pm to 8pm, with Rosary Recital at 7.30pm. Requiem Mass on Saturday, 10th August, at 9am in St. Peter and Paul’s Church, Portlaoise.
Cremation service thereafter in Newlands Cross Crematorium at 11.30am. In lieu of flowers, donations if desired can be made to Harold’s Cross Hospice.
Desmond (Des) Bredin
Woodbrook, Mountrath, Laois/Arklow, Wicklow
Formerly Arklow and late of Shannon Street, Mountrath, Co. Laois. Peacefully surrounded by his family, at the residence of his Brother and sister in-law, predeceased by his parents, Brendan and Nancy Bredin (Derrough).
Sadly missed by his brother, sister, sister-in-law, brother in-law, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncle, cousins, relatives, friends and neighbours, his partner Ann and his beloved dog Oscar.
Reposing at his Brothers Residence, Woodbrook, Mountrath, Co. Laois R32 E785, from 2 o’clock on Wednesday afternoon with Rosary at 8 o’clock. Removal on Thursday morning to St. Fintan’s Church, Mountrath for 10 o’clock funeral mass, followed by cremation in Shannon Crematorium at 2 o’clock.

Fran (Frank) Naughton
Ballina, Mayo/Portarlington, Laois/Wicklow
Formerly of Portarlington, County Laois and Wicklow. Suddenly at his residence in Ballina. Valued teacher at Stella Maris Ballycastle and Gortnar Abbey, Jesus and Mary Secondary School Mayo. Predeceased by his loving parents Frances and Tom. Deeply regretted by his loving brothers and sisters Martin, Brian, Angela, Una and Tom. aunt Catherine, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephew, grandnephew, relatives and friends.
Reposing at Maher’s Chapel of Rest, Portarlington (eircode R32 X5XV) on Wednesday evening, 7th August, from 5pm with Rosary at 6pm. Removal on Thursday morning, 8th August, at 9:20am arriving St Michael’s Church, Portarlington for Requiem Mass at 10am. Funeral afterwards to St Michael’s Cemetery, Portarlington.

Fintan Lalor
The Courthouse, Harper’s Lane, Portlaoise, Laois
Fintan passed unexpectedly at his home. Predeceased by his sister Angie.
Dearly loved son of Patrick and Mary. He will be sadly missed by his partner Paula, his brother Daniel, his sisters Maureen & Suzie, brothers-in-law Eamon, Keith & Damien, his nieces, nephews, extended family, relatives and friends.
Reposing at Keegan’s Funeral Home, Portlaoise on Wednesday (August 7th) from 5pm -7pm. Arriving at SS.Peter & Paul’s Church, Portlaoise, for Requiem Mass at 12 Noon on Thursday. This will be followed by a private family cremation.
Catherine (Kay) Cullen (née Moran)
O’Moore Street, Mountmellick, Laois
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother Catherine (Kay) Cullen (neé Moran) of O’Moore Street, Mountmellick, Co. Laois, peacefully at home at the age of 97 after a short illness surrounded by her loving family.
Predeceased by her husband Michael (Mick), son Miceal, her younger brothers, John, Tom, and Eamon. Sadly missed by her devoted children, Loyola, Tom, Pauric, Gemma, Pam, Denise, and Sean, daughters-in-law and sons-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sister-in-law Eileen Moran, extended family, neighbours, carers, and wide circle of friends.
Reposing at Moloney’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, 7th of August, from 5pm to 8pm with Rosary at 7:30pm. Removal from her home at 10:30am on Thursday, the 8th of August, arriving at St. Joseph’s Church for funeral mass at 11am after which Kay will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery with her beloved husband Mick.

On the 6th of August 2024 Teresa Bergin, wife of the late Noel and formerly of Ballytarsna, Pike of Rushall, Co. Laois . Sadly missed by her loving son Tony, daughter in law Miriam, brothers Anthony and Noel, sisters Goretti and Phil, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Reposing at the home of her son Tony V92DK13 on Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Reposing at Burke’s Funeral Home, Mountrath. Co. Laois on Thursday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Remains to arrive St. Garadh’s Church, Pike of Rushall, Castletown on Friday morning for 11 a.m. Requiem Mass followed by interment in Pike of Rushall Cemetery.
