New special education facilities announced for Ballyroan and Ballylinan National Schools

New educational facilities for children with special education needs has been approved in both Ballyroan and Ballylinan National Schools.

Ballyroan National School has been approved for reconfiguration works to provide one new classroom to provide a special class for children with special educational needs.

Ballylinan National School, meanwhile, has been approved to reconfigure an existing classroom to provide a special class for children with special educational needs.

It follows news earlier in the week that Coláiste Íosagáin Portarlington will receive funding to provide a new classroom for special needs.

The projects in Ballylinan and Ballyroan have been devolved to the schools to arrange the works at local level.

Work will commence when the schools finalise arrangements with the developers.

Just last month, local Sinn Fein TD Brian Stanley spoke out in the Dáil regarding funding cuts to the special needs services.

Laois Fiann Fáil TD Sean Fleming, Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, welcomed the news for Ballylinan and Ballyroan, saying:

“I want to acknowledge the work on the school authorities, staff parents and the entire school community for their work in promoting these very important projects.”
