Capital funding has been announced for two Laois disability projects which will help house local people with intellectual disabilities.
The two projects will provide a total of eight houses in Portlaoise.
The first project is for the assessment and design of a new community residence in the town for four people with intellectual disabilities.
The second project is for the purchase of a community residence in Summerhill, Portlaoise, also for four more people with intellectual disabilities.
This funding will help to further extend community-based living arrangements for people with disabilities in Laois.
This will mean that Laois people with disabilities can live in suitable housing and live within the County, close to family, friends, local community and amenities.
This funding is part of the Government’s €23 million programme and targets to expand residential day services, children’s services and respite facilities.
The news was welcomed by local Fianna Fail TD, Sean Fleming, Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs:
“It is important that we continue to invest in services and the provision of housing for people with disabilities in Laois,” Deputy Fleming said.
“Fianna Fáil believes in ‘An Ireland for All’, so it is vital that we invest in projects such as these in Laois to support people who are disadvantaged and with disabilities.”
