This week marks the return of our student series where Laois students are quizzed on their respective third level courses.
Every sector is acknowledged, from the subject matter of the course itself to the night life as we aim to give forthcoming students an idea what it is like to attend college or university.
First to answer the questions is Mathew Goode from Clonad.
What are you studying?
Bachelor of Technology (Education) in Graphics and Construction Technology concurrent with Teacher Education (Woodwork and DCG teaching).
Why did you choose to study this course?
Woodwork was my favourite subject in school as I enjoyed working with my hands rather than reading and writing. Also June, July and August off is a bonus with teaching.
What are your plans when you finish college?
I’m hoping to travel a bit before I get a full time job teaching.
Do you think you would like to stay local, or perhaps move away?
I’ll try and stay local if possible.
Would you like to move home after college?
Yes I would like to so I can save some money when I start teaching.
What’s the hardest thing about your course?
It’s probably keeping up with assignments as we have a lot of practical papers and drawings that need to be submitted.
What’s your typical college routine?
I usually get up and go to my lectures, then I do some study in stables, have dinner and then meet up with my friends.
