Local band Cool Boy have released their debut single ‘High Tide’ and will perform their new record at this year’s Forrest Fest in Emo from July 19 to 21.
The song is available now on Spotify and Youtube.
The track was recorded in Golden Egg studios in Ratheniska by Owen Geaney before being sent to Abbey Road studios in London for mastering.
They most recently performed at Old Fort Festival in Portlaoise where they opened for The Tumbling Paddies on June 30.
Cool Boy’s music has been influenced by classics like The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and Thin Lizzy, as well as newer artists such as Catfish and the Bottlemen and The Back Seat Lovers.
Members include Alex Power on bass, Tadgh O’Dwyer on rhythm guitar and vocals, Fionn Devoy on lead guitar and Ruairi Phelan on Drums.
As well as this, they are set to feature on the RTE TV show ‘An Ghig Mhór’ which is going to air later this year.
All four of the lads were previously members of other bands in the Portlaoise area, appearing at major festivals like Forest Fest and Electric Picnic, but mutual musical influences brought them together to form Coolboy in Autumn ’23.
Alex Power is particularly excited about their first single finally being divulged after months of hard work.
He said: “I’m delighted, I feel at the gigs people want to sing along to the original songs but don’t know the words and I’m glad they can finally sing along.”
Cool Boy have more exciting new music in the works that they plan to reveal later in the year.
He said: “Yeah we have another song that we recorded at the same time that we will release later in the summer. I’m looking forward to everyone hearing that too.”
