Once upon a time on a little corner of Dublin city, ArtLot, a derelict site, held its own as an open-air public exhibition space inspiring and amusing passers-by with its monthly programme of visual art and performance.
When the hotel developers moved in, ArtLot was rescued by Electric Picnic, establishing itself in the woods of Stradbally Hall as the festival’s alternative visual arts and performance space.
Fast forward a decade and the ArtLot stage has just revealed details of their 10th anniversary programme.
A champion of emerging Irish talent this year’s line-up will include music performances from Fancy Dan, Calum Agnew, Joe Maxi, Weather Underground and more.
Additionally, ArtLot’s night-time program will showcase performances by Granny’s Gaff resident DJ Sharpson, Jamie Ennis, Bob Manzanilla, Arise DJs, CNC and R3D’s House.
The underground LGBTQ+ night Rathaus will host a major party to conclude the festival on Sunday night.
ArtLot is a celebration of creativity, with festival-goers able to enjoy artworks by renowned mural painter Kevin Bohan, flying JellyFish installations by Limerick-based textile artist Rachel Maloney, and newly commissioned sculptures by artist Rosaleen Dunne.
Artist Carl Hickey, known as one of the most interesting painters of his generation, will set up a pop-up studio in the woods for live painting sessions throughout the weekend.
The festival will also feature spoken-word performances from poet and disability advocate Philip Kenny and captivating pop-up acts by Wolfpack Circus.
Additionally, a major collaboration with arts organisation Alternative Dublin will offer festival attendees free painting lessons and after-dark UV painting parties.
ArtLot is home to beloved festival art installations such as Granny’s House, the immersive installation that transports visitors back to the 1980s, and Amy’s Wine House, a derelict chill-out space that pays tribute to fallen icons; the perfect spot to escape to for some late-night shenanigans.
