A call has been made for Laois County Council to organise a homecoming for the Laois senior footballers after the Tailteann Cup final next month.
At the AGM of the Portlaoise District, the suggestion was made by Independent Councillor Tommy Mulligan.
Cllr Mulligan, who was newly elected in Portlaoise earlier this month, said it will be a “huge day for the county” and a “fantastic occasion”.
Mulligan suggested holding an event in the new permanent structure near Scoil Mhuire in Portlaoise.
He told the chamber: “I think it is a great opportunity to showcase the structure as well.”
Fellow Councillors unanimously agreed but it will need signing off from the County Council if the event is going to take place.
Engineer Wes Wilkinson said that he would bring the matter forward to the executive of Laois County Council.
Laois reached the Tailteann Cup final after beating Antrim at the weekend in the semi-final in Croke Park.
Two goals from Brian Byrne earned Laois a 3-12 to 1-13 victory over Antrim and a final against 2023 runners up Down.
The event which Mulligan described as one that “should be celebrated” will take place in Croke Park on Saturday July 13.
