Lidl Ireland have made an application to Laois County Council seeking planning permission to construct a third supermarket in the county.
The application is for a location in Graiguecullen, meaning Carlow County Council have also been contacted for planning permission.
The proposed development would see Lidl construct their trademark discount supermarket and off-licence on the Killeshin / Castlecomer Road.
The project would see the demolition and site clearance of the existing National Learning Network Centre / Rehabcare building.
In its place, Lidl are looking to build a 2,305 square metre, two-storey supermarket with mono-pitch and a net retail sales area of approximately 1,500 square metres.
The development would include construction of car and cycle parking with site access from the Killeshin / Castlecomer Road.
Provision would also be made for signage, trolley bays, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, as well as landscaping, lighting, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, roof mounted solar panels, and drainage.
A decision is expected in mid August.
The proposed new store would bring Lidl ever closer to their 200th location in Ireland and the third in Laois along with Portlaoise and Portarlington.
