GAA Diary: Critchley gifts his book to schools, Laois Masters presented with new gear and Ballinakill-Ballypickas reach Féile Division 2 shield final

Pat Critchley presents a copy of ‘A Coaching Way’ to Laois Schools

Pat Critchley presented copies of his book ‘A Coaching Way’ to various schools across Laois recently.

Pat Critchley, along with sponsors Donie Norton of the Welcome Inn and Mark Martley of Martley’s Bus and Coach Hire, presented Pat’s book, ‘A Coaching Way’ to Laois Cumann na mBunscol at the recent Camogie and Hurling finals in O’Moore Park.

The committee will now deliver a copy to every primary school in the county.

It will be a resource for teachers who are coaching our future players in these schools.

The book tells the story of Pat Critchley, former Laois Senior hurler and All Star recipient, and his journey in coaching.

From his first managerial gig in 1976 when he took over as Portlaoise U-14 basketball coach at the age of 16, right up to the present day.

The book addresses Pat’s coaching influences, why we coach, what do we coach and how coaching is done.

It contains numerous diagrams of different training drills and insight Pat gained from his playing days.

The book is available in All Books Portlaoise in store and online.

Rosie and Jim’s present gear to Laois GAA Masters football team

The Laois Masters are grateful recipients of new gear from Rosie and Jim in O’Moore Park.

They received new jerseys, footballs, shorts, socks and gear bags from Nelligan Sports.

Rosie and Jim are a family business that have produced chicken products since 1997.

The quality and taste of their food has been recognised through multiple Free Form and Quality Food awards.

The Laois Masters will sport their new gear in their upcoming fixture against Westmeath.

Ballinakill-Ballypickas make history to reach Féile Division 2 shield final

Ballinakil-Ballypickas reached the Féile Division 2 shield final in which they were beaten 1-7 to 1-4 by Trim.

They were defeated by Clane in the first round by 1-8 to 1-4 which pushed them into contesting the shield competition.

This setback did not rattle them though as they bounced back with victories over St Martins (Wexford) on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-4 and Castlewellan (Down) by 5-6 to 2-3.

Despite falling short in the final, it was a huge achievement for the side.

They were managed by Pat Dooley, Seamus Dwyer, Killian Fitzpatrick and Eoin Delaney. Evan McWey was the captain and the vice captain was Jamie Fitzpatrick.
