Full list of properties sold in Laois during May as average house price rises to €250,000

There were 97 residential properties sold in Laois in May according to the Property Price Register, a significant increase on the 2023 figure.

Last May saw 74 homes sold, meaning there was a 24% increase year on year.

It is the first time in 2024 that the sales figures have increase, following a significant decline in the first quarter of the year.

The figure for May 2024 is slightly skewed, as the top-selling property listed was actually for six houses, all under one sale.

Houses 59 to 60 in Oakvale Meadows, Church Avenue, Stradbally were sold for a combined €1,520,704 towards the end of the month; approximately €253,450 per unit.

That would bring the true figure for the month to 103, an increase of almost 30% on the 2023 figure.

Of the houses sold in May, 33 broke the €300,000 barrier, with five of those exceeding €400,000.

The most expensive property in the County was sold for €484,000 in Oldtown, Abbeyleix; followed by a property in Rockview Rise, Portlaoise that went for €436,123; and a property in Shracullen, Clonaslee for €435,000.

There were also two properties that sold for €400,000: one on the Roscrea Road in Errill, and one in Kilmullen, Portarlington.

These 33 houses represent  32% of the total houses sold, up from 24% of houses sold in May2023 that exceeded the €300,000 barrier.

Overall, there was almost €26 million spent on houses in Laois this May – about €9 million more than the 2023 figure.

That €26 million is also €4 million more than last month – a significant increase month on month.

The average price for a house in Laois was €250,000 in May, up €10,000 on the average price from the first four months of the year and is in line with the average house price in the County last year.

There can be some anomalies in the figures on the Property Price Register but it is regarded as the most accurate barometer of activity on the residential property scene in Ireland.
