Emo 1-16 O’Dempsey’s 3-7
ACFL Division 2 Winner’s Section Round 2
Emo have have moved top of ACFL Division 2 following victory over O’Dempsey’s this morning.
This was a 10am throw in in order to allow supporters to travel to Croke Park to support Laois afterwards.
Emo already defeated Arles-Killeen and if they avoid defeat in their final game with The Heath, they will be in the league final and achieve promotion to Division 1.
O’Dempsey’s could still join them if they defeat Arles-Killeen in their final game too.
Arles-Killeen have lost to Emo and The Heath but still have an outside chance of clinching promotion – but they would need a big win over O’Dempsey’s and an Emo win over The Heath to give them a chance on points difference.
O’Dempsey’s started the game at a blistering pace with 1-1 in the opening couple of minutes.
Emo responded through Ross Meredith and he added two more before Darren Strong got off the mark.
But they were rocked again in the 19th minute when Pat Maher struck for O’Dempsey’s second goal.
However, it was all square three minutes later when Colm Poole registered Emo’s only goal of the contest.
O’Dempsey’s continued to cause problems and the industrious Ryan Phelan added a third goal before half time.
Nevertheless, Emo replied with points from Colm Poole (2), Nigel Murphy and Darren Strong to leave it level at the break – 1-8 to 3-2.
Emo managed to keep the goals out in the second half and that was ultimately the difference in the end.
Ross Meredith, Nigel Murphy, Colm Poole and Darren Strong were all on the scoresheet as they ran out three point winners in the end.
