Portlaoise College have announced the recipients of this year’s scholarships for incoming first-year students.
The highly competitive scholarships are each worth over €1,100.
They have been awarded to Sophie Urban from Tobair an Léinn Raheen and Caolan Gilliland from Emo National School.
These scholarships recognise outstanding academic achievements and provide significant support as the students transition to secondary education.
Principal Noel Daly and Deputy Principal Mary Marum visited Emo and Raheen national schools to make the presentations.
Here Sophie and Caolan were accompanied by their mothers, Katarzyna and Erin, respectively.
The presentation was a proud moment for both families and highlighted the students’ hard work and dedication as well as Portlaoise College’s commitment to helping them reach their potential.
The prestige with which the awards are held was evidenced as both students were honoured at the school’s recent Evening of Excellence, further acknowledging their exceptional accomplishments and potential.
Principal Noel Daly expressed his pride in the students, stating, “Sophie and Caolan have demonstrated remarkable academic abilities.
“They partook in a scholarship entrance programme along with 190 of their peers and we are thrilled to welcome them to Portlaoise College and look forward to supporting their educational journey.”
