Gardaí in Portlaoise have seized €285,000 worth of various controlled drugs, a firearm and ammunition during a search operation.
This took place in Portlaoise, on Sunday, June 16 as part of Operation Tara.
Gardai have arrested one man following the raid and say investigations are ongoing.
They recovered large quantities of cannabis herb, cocaine and MDMA and a small quantity of cannabis resin.
Gardai also recovered a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition.
They said: “Shortly before 3pm on Sunday afternoon, Gardaí attached to the Laois Drugs Unit conducted a search of a property in Portlaoise as part of Operation Tara.
“During the course of the search operation, large quantities of suspected cannabis herb, cocaine and MDMA were seized as well as a small quantity of suspected cannabis resin.
“The total value of drugs seized is €285,000. They are currently subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland (FSI).
“A sawn-off shotgun and ammunition was also seized by Gardaí during the search of the residence.
“They are currently subject to forensic examination by the Garda Ballistics Unit.
“One man (aged in his 40s) was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, at a Garda station in the Eastern Region.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
