Old Fort Festival 2024 launched with first night just ten days away

In less than two weeks, Portlaoise Town Centre will come alive with the sights and sounds of the Old Fort Quarter Festival.

The festival takes place from June 27-30 and is set against the historic backdrop of Portlaoise’s Old Fort.

Organisers say that ‘this year’s festival boasts an unparalleled lineup that is sure to delight music lovers of all tastes’.

The newly renovated Laois Music Centre, boasting a brand new covered area and stage, will host electrifying evening entertainment.

Kicking off the festivities on Thursday, June 27, festival newcomers The Tumbling Paddies will headline.

George Murphy will provide support, setting the tone for an epic weekend ahead.

Friday, June 28, sees the return of crowd favorites The Whistlin’ Donkeys, while Sunday, June 30, promises to end the festival on a high note with the sensational Smash Hits taking center stage.

Saturday, June 29, is not to be missed, featuring an Oasis tribute by ‘Live Forever’ and a performance by local favorites Pogueology, ensuring a night of non-stop entertainment and sing-along classics.

On the Sunday, Main Street, Church Avenue, and Fitzmaurice Place will transform into a bustling giant street market.

There will be a spectacular lineup of free entertainment on the Large Stage in the Lower Square.

The stage is almost set at the Fort Protector Performance Space at Laois School of Music for the launch of the Old Fort Quarter Festival, Portlaoise 27th – 30th June 2024.

People can also immerse themselves in history with a Heritage Exhibition by The Laois Heritage Society and heritage walking tours of the Fort Protector.

Music Generation Laois will showcase performances from across Ireland at its brand new venue.

Meanwhile, The Dunamaise Arts Centre will dazzle with a line up of the best street performers with colorful activities for the whole family. These festivities, brought to you by Laois County Council and the Old Fort Quarter Festival, run from 12 noon to 6 pm.

On the Saturday, Portlaoise Library will delight children with free interactive history shows at 10am, 12pm and 2 pm.

Meanwhile, the Dunamaise Arts Centre will be a hive of activity with a thrilling Comic Con and an impressive Arts Exhibition.
