The Laois PPN Secretariat and Staff celebrated their 10 year anniversary in Roundwood House last week.
The group represents over 650 community groups in County Laois in regards to decision making policies.
They also provide free training and are a hub for information on funding opportunities that support community groups.
They have had huge success since being established in 2014. They playedan integral role in supporting the Community during the Covid 19 response by creating an online interactive map of Community Groups.
These groups were offering support in every town, village and rural area across Laois. The Covid 19 response was co-ordinated by Laois County Council.
As well this, the group have set up the Climate Action Project – an ongoing calendar of events to raise awareness on Climate Action and the positive steps Community Groups can take.
While also establising The Annual Community and Voluntary Awards.
These awards are held in partnership with Laois County Council and acknowledge the community groups and volunteers of Laois.
The Laois PPN has been a huge addition to communities over recent years as has been echoed by Dan Bergin the Coordinator of Laois PPN.
He said: “There is a strong Community Spirit across our County. Laois PPN wish to thank all the Community Groups, past and present Secretariat members, Reps and staff, Laois County Council and the DRCD, who have supported the growth, development and work of Laois PPN over the last decade”.
This year PPNs across the country will be celebrating their 10th anniversary at the National PPN Conference, which will be hosted by Limerick PPN, Limerick City and County Council and supported by the DRCD.
He finished by saying: “Laois PPN look forward to continuing to support Community Groups in Laois for the next 10 years and beyond.”
