Many Laois schools had a successful outing at the All Ireland track and field championships in Harriers Stadium in Tullamore.

Charlie Peavoy brought a gold medal back to Camross as he ran out victor in the minor boys shot putt.

His throw on 13.67 metres saw him claim first for his school, Kilkenny College.

And he wasn’t the only Camross man to win for Kilkenny College as Andrew Cooper followed suit.

His throw of 15.06 metres saw him finish more than a metre ahead of the athlete in second place.

John Delaney was the quickest home in the Inter boys 400 metre sprint with a time of 50.3 seconds as he also claimed first.

This is an incredible achievement by the St Fergal’s College and St Abban’s athlete who continues to go from strength to strength.

There was a bronze medal in the Junior boys shot putt for St Abban’s Joshua Crosby.

The Knockbeg College student threw 12.70 metres – just two centimeters shy of a silver medal.

In the Inter boys 800 metre, Portlaoise CBS’ Dan Downey finished a commendable fourth place with a time of 1.58.

Finally, Laura Ayers of St Leo’s College and St Abban’s finished eighth place in the Minor Girls 800 metre race in 2.26.

All of these athletes qualified through the Leinster Schools Track and Field Championships that took place in May.
