Local Economic and Community plus Climate Action plans launched for Laois

Laois County Council and Laois Community Development Committee have launched their Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP) and Local Authority Climate Action Plan (LACAP).

The LECP outlines a comprehensive strategy for economic growth, enhancing community development and well being as well as promoting sustainable development across Laois.

In parallel, the LACAP lays out actionable steps to address climate change, reduce carbon emissions and build resilience against environmental challenges.

The LECP and LACAP were adopted in March and January respectively by elected members ‘marking a huge milestone in the sustainable development and environmental stewardship of County Laois’.

A joint public consultation was heard before both plans were adopted by elected members to ensure that all members were aligned strategically.

This collaborative process involved a wide range of stakeholders and organisations, ensuring what they feel reflects the needs and aspirations of local communities across County Laois.

Cllr Pascal McEvoy, Cathaoirleach of Laois County Council, outlined the importance of these developments.

He said: “I am happy and proud to launch the Laois Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP) 2023-2028.

“This event marks a significant milestone in the sustainable economic and community development of County Laois.

“Your involvement is crucial to the success of these initiatives aimed at improving Laois’ economic vitality and community sustainability.”

Pamela Tynan, Senior Executive Officer and Chief Officer of Laois LCDC, echoed thesecsentiments.

She said: “The development and implementation of these plans have been a collaborative effort involving diverse stakeholders from across the county.

“I am confident that through continued partnership, we will achieve our vision for a sustainable and thriving Laois.

“This launch brought together key stakeholders involved in the development of both plans such as Laois Chamber Alliance, Laois Partnership Company, Laois Local Enterprise Office, Laois PPN, the HSE and the DSP.”
