Laois Invincibles: Grange United complete League, Cup and Shield treble to cap off historic unbeaten season

A Laois soccer club has brought the curtain down on a remarkable season, smashing all kinds of records along the way.

Grange United put the exclamation point on an already historic season, by completing a famous league, cup, and shield treble.

That brings an end to a season which saw Grange lift three trophies, all without losing a single game.

The Borris-in-Ossory club won the NTDL Division 2 Cup on the weekend, beating Nenagh outfit, Ballymackey on an astonishing scoreline of 9-1.

Man of the match, Jason McCormack bagged a first-half hat-trick, with Steven Finan giving Grange a 4-1 lead at half time.

Finan got a second shortly after the restart with Tom Lord also grabbing a brace off the bench, while Emmet Jones and Stephen Dunphy completed the rout.

Having been revived from a 33-year hiatus, Grange United have made the most impactful return possible to the local soccer scene.

The club were crowned NTDL Division 2 league winners last month, finishing eight points clear of Borrisoleigh in second place.

Grange won 13 games in their league campaign and dropped points only twice in draws with Borrisoleigh and Shinrone.

Along with the Division 2 Shield won earlier in the season, the club can claim to be one of the few sides anywhere in the world to lift three trophies in a single season.

Even rarer again, they join the likes of Arsenal, AC Milan and Celtic in going an entire season unbeaten.

Excitement is already building for next season as Division 1 beckons.
