The Laois badminton team have been crowned the All-Ireland county Champions at Grade 5/G .
The All Ireland Championships were held in the University of Limerick on Sunday April 28, playing in a ‘round-robin’ style tournament against Limerick and Galway.
They went on to defeat the sides on their way to the title and will compete in division 4/F in the forthcoming season.
They earned their spot in the finals after proving themselves as the strongest team in Leinster at their grade. On their way to the Leinster Championship title they defeated Louth, Meath, Wicklow and Westmeath.
The team was composed of members from Portlaoise and Mountmellick badminton clubs.
Roy Cobbe, Chairman of Portlaoise Badminton Club and Honorary Life Member for exceptional service to Leinster Badminton was delighted with the outcome of the campaign.
He said: “It is great to see Laois Badminton doing so well. It is a great achievement for the players for both club and county”.
