There is deep sadness in Killeshin following the passing of Declan McDermott – a ‘cherished’ member of the community.
Mr McDermott, who passed away on Sunday, is survived by his wife Rebekah and children Jeff, David, Mark and Emer.
A long serving employee of Proctor & Gamble, Mr McDermott was heavily involved with Killeshin GAA.
He served as a committee member and a juvenile coach with the club for many years. Killeshin paid tribute to him.
They said: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Declan McDermott, a cherished member of our community.
“Declan dedicated many years to our club, not only as a committee member but also as a juvenile coach.
“His commitment extended through his family, with his sons Jeff, David, and Mark, and his daughter Emer, who have all played pivotal roles in our club teams, including the Ladies club.
“As a mark of respect, the GAA grounds will be closed until Thursday morning.
“Declan was a gentleman whose presence enriched our lives and his absence will be profoundly felt.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Rebekah, and their children, Jeff, David, Mark, and Emer. May Declan rest in peace.”
Declan will be reposing at Burke McDermott Funeral Home, Station Road, Carlow (eircode R93 E372) on Tuesday, May 21, from 3pm concluding with prayers at 8pm.
His removal will take place on Wednesday at 10.30am to arrive for Funeral Mass at 11am in Holy Cross Church, Killeshin. Burial will follow in the adjoining Churchyard Cemetery.
