St Abban’s AC had a very busy week which included Jack Fenlon running a World U-20 standard time, the club hosting the Annual Open Sports and the Country Track and Field Championships.
First on the agenda was the Annual Open Sports. 30 different athletics clubs travelled down to their facilities in Monasterevin to compete in various competitions.
Ferrybank AC claimed the Monavea Shield for the most successful club on the day.
After a day’s rest the athletes participated in the Luggacurren 5k. There were 145 finishers in the first of a 6 stage league.
Mackenzie McIvor led the field home in 13:42 while Paula Guinan was the first lady home in 16:14.
From here, a number of athletes journeyed north for Belfast International Milers Club.
The club provide top quality meets for middle distance runners in Ireland
At the meet Jack Fenlon ran a 3k time 0f 8:05, a new PB and a World U-20 standard time.
Teammate Cian Kelly achieved a PB of his own, running a 3:49 in the ‘A’ 1500 metre race while Cheryl Nolan claimed second in women’s 3k with a time of 9:18.
Finally Niall Harvey was the final athlete in action who ran a personal best of 4:03 in the Men’s 1500 metres.
The week concluded as the club hosted the County Track and Field Championships. Almost one hundred athletes were in action with plenty of St Abbans athletes claiming county medals.
