Another instance of campaign posters being damaged has been captured, this time on the road between Castletown and The Pike of Rushall.
Posters belonging to European election candidate Peadar Tóibín and local election candidates Cllr Ollie Clooney and Helen Campion have been targeted.
The faces of Tóibín (Aontu), Campion (Sinn Féin) and Ollie Clooney (Independent) have been cut out of their election canvases.
The posters appear to have been vandalised with some sort of tool and the offence took place between 10pm on Wednesday, May 15, and 8am on Thursday, May 16.
It is a criminal offence to remove, destroy or tamper with candidate canvases.
The damage was reported on the R445 between the Pike of Rushall and Castletown.
LaoisToday has connected the impacted candidates who were unaware of what had happened.
The posters in the surrounding area of Bryan Corrigan (Labour), Conor Bergin (Fine Gael) James Kelly (Independent) and Fintan Cuddy (Fianna Fáil) were left undamaged.
James Kelly said in response to the incident: “I condemn any such activities.
“I applaud all of the candidates for putting their name forward and believe that as we are in a democracy that respect should be afforded to the candidates.”
This comes after two Sinn Fein candidates in Portlaoise had their posters stolen and damaged.
The local and European elections are set to take place on June 7 2024.
