In Pictures: Huge year ahead for Laois teenager following European Taekwondo glory

Shane Allison, a young man from Ballybrittas, is travelling all across Europe competing in Taekwondo.

His last outing was the European Championships in April. On his way to his claiming second ITF title he defeated Netherlands, Norway, Poland and Romania.

He has also competed in various other competitions across the continent, including Finland, Liverpool and Romania but is now looking to the future.

Despite Shane being a 6th year student this year in St Paul’s of Monasterevin, there are now more fights on the horizon.

The young man is competing in Clontarf, Dublin shortly before returning to Liverpool to compete for a world title.

National recognition has come his way also. Shane has been selected on the national team to compete at the ‘WAKO World Championships’ in Budapest this August.

Shane has come a long way since starting the sport. After falling in love with martial arts at just four years of age he never looked back.

He began kickboxing at 12 and now lives in the gym, training five to six times a week.

He trains in Nio Taekwondo Newbridge with the guidance of Mr Hong Looi and Miss Sabina Mason.

They travel with him regularly to competitions to prepare Shane physically and mentally.

Hopefully Shane will be able to bring home the World Championships to Ireland and Laois.
