“The most important sunrise of the year” is taking place this weekend, as the Darkness into Light 5km walks will get underway across the country.
The walks will take place on Saturday, May 11, starting at 4.15am.
While various events have been confirmed, a new walk has just been added for Laois.
The Amber Flag Committee in Midlands Prison are hosting the official Darkness into Light walk for Portlaoise, in association with Pieta House.
The walk will set off from the Irish Prison Service College on the Dublin Road.
It is s part of the yearly Fundraiser for Pieta House, a national charity who provide a range of services to people who are experiencing thoughts of suicide, those who engage in self-harm, and those bereaved by suicide.
Speaking about the walk and the reasons behind it, former Laois footballer, Craig Rogers, who is a member of the Amber Flag Committee said:
“It’s something that has effected a lot of people and is also something that needs more awareness.”
