Stage set as popular ‘Music at the Malthouse’ ready to take place this weekend in Stradbally

Music at the Malthouse is taking place on May 10, 11 and 12 in Stradbally in the restored Malthouse building.

This festival is a collaboration of music from guest performers and the talented young musicians of Music Generation Laois.

Notable additions at this year’s festival include world acclaimed UK trad group ‘Flook’ who are joined by Scottish fiddler Patsy Reid.

Also playing are Manchester musician Michael McGoldrick and Irish singer songwriter John Spillane.

On Friday the festival will commence with a concert featuring Laois School of Music Youth Orchestra.

The intermediate Trad group will also be showcasing their talent before the night concludes when the Kildare Youth Folk Orchestra, The Music Generation Laois Trad Orchestra and the Music Generation Laois Harp perform the piece ‘The Tionól Suite’ composed by Ernestine Healy.

On Saturday ‘Flook’ will take to the stage alongside Patsy Reid also at 7pm who will entertain those in attendance for the evening.

The festival culminates on Sunday at 3pm with a performance from John Spillane, Lorna Mclaughlin and the Music Generation Laois’ Harp and Rock and Pop programmes.

Spillane will perform the piece ‘100 snow white horses’ which was written in 2016 and supported by the Laois Arts Office.

John’s 2021 album of the same name featured Music Generation harpists under the guidance of Siobhan Buckely.
