The HSE have announced that progress is underway in the form of funding for a significant development in Laois.
The funding has been allocated for planning and design for a primary care centre at St Fintan’s Campus in Portlaoise.
The design team have been appointed and the preliminary design has been approved.
It is expected that planning permission for this project will be lodged in the final quarter of this year.
Local Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley has welcomed what he described as “progress,” saying the issue has been a high local priority for he and his party.
“The local Sinn Féin team, Maria McCormack, Councillor Caroline Dwane-Stanley and I have been working on this issue and are delighted to see it progress,” Deputy Stanley said.
“It is vital that Portlaoise has fully functioning, staffed and resourced primary care centres like this one.”
“I look forward to the commencement of this project and I will monitor its progress until then.”
It was reported at the time that the HSE intended to lodge an application for planning permission by early 2023.
