Laois U-14 academy squads had a successful day of hurling when they travelled to Cork recently for their first games of the year.
They had a productive day out last Saturday – beating both Cork City and Cork East.
However, despite the great hurling on display it was a trad session breaking out on the bus home that stole the show.
Jack Higgins, on the box, and Tadgh Lowry, on the bodhrán, gave their teammates a wonderful performance on the way home from Cork.
It was reminiscent of Brendan Bulger’s performance in Croke Park in 2013 and we hope to see another rendition of the tune in Croke Park ourselves one day for Laois.
Jack and Tadgh, both of Camross, are talented musicians who will compete at the upcoming Fleadh Cheoil this summer in Portlaoise.
We wish the lads a successful outing with their Comhaltas as it is wonderful to have such talent both on and off the pitch.
Hopefully the musical itch is contagious as the Laois Gaels could use a fiddle player in the coming years to join in with the boys!
