In a very welcome piece of news, it has been announced that three special schools across County Laois have been allocated new funding.
The schools in question are St Francis Special School and Kolbe Special School, both in Portlaoise, and Saplings Special School in Graiguecullen.
The funding is designated for new teaching posts in each school, as well as the addition of new Administrative Deputy Principal posts at both Kolbe and Saplings.
These additional teaching roles will help to deliver access to more subjects in the junior and senior school curricula for the young people in these three schools.
Meanwhile, the two new deputy principal posts will assist the current school principals with administrative and management work.
The roles will also support learning, parental and community engagement and support principals carry out the tremendous amount of work they do.
Laois TD Sean Fleming, Minister of State, welcomed the news, saying the three schools “will all benefit from additional teaching posts targeted at post-primary aged students.”
“This is really good news for the children, parents and staff of St Francis, Kolbe and Sapling’s Special Schools,” Deputy Fleming said.
“The students will really benefit from learning and undertaking a wider curriculum and realise their full potential.
“I want to thank the management, teachers and parents for all the work they do in and for our special schools in Laois.
“Special education is a key priority for Fianna Fáil in Government and delivering more opportunities and better facilities for students and schools is part of this.”
