On Saturday, April 27, a charity event will be going ahead at Portlaoise Golf Club.
The event, now in it’s fifth year running, will be a day of fun and competition for all, with a very important cause.
Due to recent success in past years, this year the event is in aid of Kolbe School as well as the Cuisle Centre.
Kolbe School is a school in Portlaoise that provides an education for children with special needs, who currently have 44 children enrolled.
Cuisle Centre is a valued resource near Midlands Regional Hospital that offers support to individuals and families who are affected by cancer.
The generosity of this charity event will greatly benefit both organisations.
On of the organisers, James Furlong, explained how the event has grown over the years.
He said: ”
This is our fifth running of the event and in the last four, we have raised a total of €24,371.
“€3,318 came in year 1, €4,179 in year 2, €7,000 in year 3 and €9,874 in year 4.
“This year we are hoping to break €10,000 and it’s looking like we are on track to do it so far.
“As a result of it becoming so successful, we have decided to split the total amount raised between the Cuisle Centre and Kolbe School this year.
“Portlaoise Golf Club have kindly sponsored the use of the facilities again along with DS Sports sponsoring gear for the day.
“Bovine Restaurant is also sponsoring food on the day for all players.
“This all started with a group of friends having a chat over a few drinks over eight years ago now as one of our friend’s mothers sadly passed away.
“She would have used the Cuisle Centre facility and we wanted to do something to give something back to them for all the good work they do.
“We have had great interest from businesses this year sponsoring all the prizes for the sponsorship cards and for players prizes on the day.”
