The death has occurred of Paddy Macken, a former Laois County Council official who was highly regarded and is remembered for his warmth and decency for those he dealt with over the years.
A native of Athlone in Westmeath, he worked in Laois County Council for a long number of years and is particularly fondly associated with his time as the assistant county librarian, where his generosity and kindness were very much to the fore.
A keen golfer, he was also very popular in Mountrath Golf Club where he was a past captain and a long-time committee member. He was also a leading light in the Laois County Council Golf Society.
Paddy lived on Summerhill Lane in Portlaoise and passed away peacefully in the exceptional care of the staff of Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore.
Cherished husband and best friend of Gabrielle, adored dad to Gary and Carla, beloved grandfather to Caleb, Emma and Alex and loving father-in-law to Rob.
He will be greatly missed by his heartbroken family his beloved doggies Maud and Matilda and his large circle of friends.
Reposing at Keegan’s Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6.30pm until 8pm.
Removal on Friday to arrive at SS Peter and Paul’s Church, for 12 noon requiem Mass. Cremation will follow on Monday in Mount Jerome. Family flowers only. Donations, if desired, to the Cara Rescue Dogs. House strictly private.
