Mountrath Community School’s Transition Year students recently captivated audiences with their spectacular performance of “Back to the 80s” at Saint Philomena’s Hall in Mountrath.
Running for three consecutive nights from Wednesday, March 20 to Friday, March 22, the musical extravaganza proved to be a resounding success, with tickets selling out rapidly.
Under the expert guidance of producer Evelyn Geary, director Paul Norton, and musical director Anne-Marie Lawlor, along with choreographer Julianne McNamara, the production brought to life the vibrant energy and nostalgia of the 1980s.
Adapted from the original musical by Scott Copeman, “Back to the 80s”, follows the journey of Corey Palmer as he reminisces about his senior year at William Ocean High School.
The storyline delves into Corey’s bid for senior class president alongside his friends, with their main rival being the charismatic Michael Feldman, who has captured the attention of every girl in school, including Corey’s long-time crush, Tiffany Houston.
Filled with heartwarming moments and comedic twists, the musical is underscored by a soundtrack of iconic hits from the 1980s, including “Footloose,” “Kids in America,” “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” and many more.
The production showcased the talents of the Mountrath Community School students, who brought infectious enthusiasm and energy to the stage, leaving audiences thoroughly entertained and immersed in the nostalgia of the era.
“Back to the 80s” proved to be a memorable and unforgettable experience for all involved, demonstrating the enduring appeal of classic 80s music and storytelling.
