In a special episode of the Talking Sport Podcast, we feature a young Laois man who is playing soccer at a very high level.
Emo’s Roy Lawlor is currently playing with UCD in the U-20 League of Ireland.
His soccer journey began with Emo Celtic and saw him move to St Joseph’s in Dublin at the age of 11.
From there, he signed for Bray Wanderers and after impressing there, he went on trial at Shelbourne for two months but had to cope with rejection when they decided not to sign for them.
Instead, he went to Athlone Town and helped them claim the U-18 League of Ireland Cup.
Last season, Lawlor moved back to Dublin and signed for UCD. They went on to claim the U-17 League of Ireland title.
That secured his side a spot in the UEFA Youth League which will take place later this year.
Lawlor joins Alan Hartnett on the Podcast where he discusses his journey thus far and gives advice to other young players who believe they have what it takes to play at the highest level.
