A Laois rugby player has been called up as a replacement on the Ireland rugby panel to take on Italy in the Women’s Six Nations at the RDS on Sunday.
Portlaoise’s Eimear Corri has been called into the squad for the game which will be shown live on RTE 2, with Kick-off 3pm.
Ireland began the competition with defeat away to France last week and will be hoping for a win.
The RDS is on course for a record crowd, surpassing the one set in 2022, the last time the Irish women played there.
Speaking ahead of the game, Head Coach Scott Bemand said: “We’re incredibly excited to bring our game back to Irish shores.
“Last week we saw progression but know we’ve got to keep going after on-pitch performance.
“We’ve made some changes to the side from last week and this reflects the competition that is building in the squad.
“We want Irish people to see how much it means and to want to be part of it.
“Momentum is building within the squad through training and I’m confident that the players will give the fans something to get behind.
“We’re expecting a tough challenge from an ambitious Italy team. It should make for a real occasion to showcase our game.”
Corri has previously played for Ireland in wins over Kazakhstan, Spain and Columbia.
While still featuring with Blackrock, this season Corri also represented the Wolfhounds in the Celtic Challenge.
Having started her rugby career with Portlaoise RFC, Corri can look forward to adding to her three cap tally when making an appearance off the bench.
