Laois County Council has told the Borris-in-Ossory-Mountmellick Municipal District that it will carry out maintenance work at a rural school “in the coming weeks.”
Mr James Dowling, Senior Executive Engineer made the announcement in response to a motion from Fianna Fáil Cllr Seamus McDonald.
Cllr McDonald called on the County Council to “carry out road repairs at Barnashrone and Cloonagh, Ballyfin.”
The motion was strongly supported by party colleague, Paddy Bracken, and Fine Gael Cllr Conor Bergin who described Barnashrone National School as “a growing, rural school.”
Cllr McDonald continued by calling on Laois County Council to carry out road repairs at Cush, Clonaslee near Rickett’s Bridge, as well as repairs to the damaged bridge at Upper Ballyfin.
Cllr McDonald praised the Council’s work on bridge restoration and asked that these bridges be a part of those works.
There was enthusiastic support from Cllr James Kelly who said “there needs to be cash for Cush.”
Mr Dowling said Council staff will carry out a bridge inspection at both locations.
