Conservation improvement works have been approved for a landmark Laois tourist destination.
Laois County Council has awarded planning permission for the Office of Public Works (OPW) to carry out work at Emo Court.
The approved works will include:
- Preserving the roof structures on Emo Court House;
- Renovation of flat roofs;
- Restoration and preservation of the existing steel windows;
- Restoration of the east and west wing roofs, along with repair of all natural slate;
- Repairs to stonework on the building and;
- The preservation of the chimney stacks.
Laois Fianna Fáil TD Sean Fleming, Minister of State, welcomed the news, saying:
“I welcome the approval of these works for Emo Court House, which is now one of the Midland’s leading tourist attractions.
“These improvement works will preserve Emo Court House for many generations to come.
“Emo Court House is a great asset to the Midlands, to Laois and to the local community.
“It is a great place to visit and enjoy the lake and woodland walks or visit the House to see the fantastic building and architecture.”
