There was sadness in the small rural communities of Arles and Ballickmoyler this week at the passing of Betty O’Kelly, the popular local publican whose family have run O’Kelly’s pub for a long number of years.
A landmark on the N80 in the village of Ballickmoyler, Betty was a warm and welcoming presence behind the counter in O’Kellys over the years.
The O’Kellys were proud sponsors of the Arles-Kilcruise GAA club from its early days in 1995 with their name adorned on the club jerseys during their incredible rise from Junior ‘B’ to senior champions in the space of eight years.
Originally from Stradbally, Betty is survived by her husband Tony, son Ray, daughter-in-law Clodagh, grandchild Jude, her sisters Judy and Nora, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
Betty is predeceased by her brother Ned and sisters Frances and Bridie. Betty was laid to rest in Arles on Monday of this week.
