The post office in Durrow will not be closing down on Friday as was previously announced.
Earlier this week, Laois TD Sean Fleming reported that the premises would be closing as the building was to be put up for sale.
Customers of the post office were to be transferred to Abbeyleix but a deal to avoid all of this has been struck.
According to Deputy Fleming, the post office will stay open now until the new facility in Daybreak in Durrow is constructed.
He said: “I want to thank all involved who have ensured that the existing Post Office will remain open until it is ready to move to the new premises in Durrow in Daybreak.
“It is good news for everybody in Durrow and all of those in the surrounding areas who use the Post Office.
“A local Post Office is a vital service for Durrow and all communities.
“Therefore the Post Office will not now be closed on a temporary basis.
“I look forward to the new premises being available as soon as possible and I wish the new Post Office every good wish into the future.
“Finally, I want to thank all those involved in the existing Post Office for their great service to the community in and around Durrow over many, many years.”
