A Laois post office is set to close this Friday as the premises where it is currently located is being put up for sale.
The news was confirmed by Laois TD Sean Fleming and is in relation to Durrow.
According to Deputy Fleming, customers of the post office will be transferred to Abbeyleix.
He said: “An Post have informed me that there will be a temporary closure of the Post Office in Durrow from Friday, March 8, as the current premises is being sold.
“In the meantime, customers of Durrow Post Office will transfer to Abbeyleix.”
In a more worrying update, Deputy Fleming said that An Post have been unable to find a replacement post master.
He said: “An Post have advertised the position of Postmaster a number of times and have made direct contact with local businesses.
“So far, they have been unable to find a person to take up the new contract as Postmaster for Durrow.
“However, they are continuing the efforts to appoint a Postmaster and they are hopeful that the service will be restored soon.
“I will keep in contact with An Post and the Minister on this very important issue for Durrow.
“It is vital that a Post Office be re-opened for the people and community in Durrow as soon as possible.”
