Timahoe National School have been forced to make a substitution on their team ahead of the grand final of the LaoisToday Schools QuizCast.
The Dunamaise Arts Centre will be the venue for the final which is scheduled for Friday, March 1.
Up to now, 6th class students Ruairi Bowe, Daisy Ramsbottom and Lucy Scully have represented the school.
But with Lucy unfortunately away on the day of the final, her place on the team has gone to fellow Sixth Class pupil Ellie Mae O’Connor.
In the final, Timahoe are set to go up against Rath, The Heath and St Colman’s, Stradbally.
It has been some journey for Timahoe to reach this stage as they have taken part in three rounds.
They began with victory over Rath but then lost out to Stradbally in Round 2.
That sent them into the Wildcard Round where they came through a might battle with Borris-In-Ossory to book their place in the Grand Final.
The rounds up to now have been recorded on Zoom, with the students in question relocating to the library where they were accompanied by principal Mick McEvoy and teacher Anna Moore.
Ruairi Bowe is 12-years-old and lists his interests as farming, GAA and soccer.
Daisy Ramsbottom is also 12 and is interested in farming, football and basketball.
While Lucy Scully, like the other two is from Timahoe and 12-years-old, lists farming and football as her interests.
New contestant Ellie Mae O’Connor is also from Timahoe and lists swimming, Irish Dancing and football.
Timahoe NS has 177 students in total and currently have an extra modular classroom under construction to cater for more.
12 of the students are in the early intervention Autism Unit which caters for children aged 3-5.
Timahoe NS places a huge emphasis on science with 6th class students due to go to Science Blast in the RDS soon while they also take part in the Intel Mini Scientist competition each year.
Green schools, amber flag for mental health and Music Generation Laois all feature in the school too.
In terms of sport, the school competes in GAA, soccer, rounders and basketball are all played.
As regards the quiz, there have been four or five rounds of questions so far but that will change in the Grand Final.
It will have ten rounds including some of the old favourites like ‘Golden Goose’ and ‘The List’ as well as some new rounds which test the contestants’ knowledge across spelling, the Irish language and music.
While Timahoe will certain miss Lucy, they have a very capable replacement in Ellie Mae and will give their all in the final.
