At the February meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory-Mountmellick Municipal Distric, Laois County Council announced that they would be seeking funding for “urgently needed” safety works in Durrow.
Independent Cllr Cllr Ollie Clooney raised the motion when he called for an update on the proposed pedestrian crossing at the Catholic Church on the Kilkenny Road.
“This is going on for four years now,” Cllr Clooney said, describing the area as “black spot for speeding.”
Mr James Dowling, Senior Executive Engineer at the Roads Department said:
“Laois County Council Road Design have issued a design report to Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) for approval.
“Following approval by TII, Laois County Council will seek funding to arrange for the construction of the crossing.”
Cllr Clooney also called on the Council to erect a traffic mirror at the bridge in Attanagh Village, and to “take action to relieve the flooding on the Ballygeehan road, Ballacolla”
In response, Mr Dowling confirmed that the Council will arrange for the erection of a mirror to assist vehicles in Attanagh.
Mr Dowling also said that Council staff will meet with CllrClooney to discuss remedial measures to alleviate flooding on the Ballygeehan Road.
