Coming from the picturesque landscapes of a small farm in Timahoe, singer-songwriter Kevin Quigley is set to release his latest single, ‘Soul Sold‘ on February 16.
With a career dedicated to crafting poignant and soul-stirring music, Kevin Quigley has steadily garnered acclaim and a devoted following through his years of performing in esteemed venues across Ireland.
Kevin went to Timahoe National School and his love for music really developed in his early teens when he a student in Heywood Community School.
“I started playing guitar when I was about 13 or so,” Kevin told LaoisToday.
“It just started off as a hobby for a bit of fun, I didn’t think too much of it.
“Then, somewhere down the line, I starred writing songs, coming up with my own tunes.
“Before I knew it I started singing and then started getting gigs here and there when I was 17.”
Kevin made a life-altering choice early on—to devote himself entirely to the art of songwriting and performance.
His journey has taken him through acclaimed venues such as Cyprus Avenue, Coughlans, Kavanaghs, and The Whitehorse, sharing stages with acts like Hermitage Green, The Pale, Corner Boy, and The Shoos.
His most recent gig in his hime County came just before Christmas, when he played Kavanagh’s in Portlaoise.
“I learned different instruments, and got interested in recording and producing,” Kevin told us.
“I record and produce all my own stuff, and I play most of the instruments myself.”
Whether performing as a solo act or fronting his band ‘Kevin Quigley & The Great Ideas,’ Kevin’s music resonates with a unique blend of intimate folk and rock influences.
The Laois man says he draws inspiration from the likes of Bob Dylan, Glen Hansard, The Cure, The Smiths, and R.E.M.
His compositions take listeners on a captivating journey, shifting from raw emotional solo performances to foot-stomping rock supported by his band.
