Knockbeg College marched into the semi finals of the South-Leinster Junior ‘A’ Football Championship this afternoon.

The sides, managed by former Laois hurler Brian Stapleton and Kerry native Jack Hartnett, were 23 point winners over St Peter’s of Wexford.

There was just two points between the teams at half time but Knockbeg struck for six goals in the second half to record a comprehensive win.

Dylan O’Dwyer and Ennae Byrne got the scoring underway before St Peter’s replied with a brace of frees.

They got another two before half time but the brilliant Byrne slotted four more in reply to leave Knockbeg 0-6 to 0-4 ahead.

And it all clicked for them in the second half which began with O’Dwyer and Byrne once again kicking points.

Their first goal came from the penalty spot when Byrne converted after he had been fouled.

And then the latter scored the second following some great work from Jacob Curran.

Byrne and O’Dwyer added points before O’Dwyer raised a third green flag with a Byrne point making it 3-11 to 0-4 with 15 minutes to play.

St Peter’s were awarded a penalty shortly after which they converted but that would be their final score.

Instead, Knockbeg finished like a train with Jacob Curran, Eoin Ryan and substitute Cian O’Sullivan finding the net in a huge win.

The lads progress to the semis where they must await their opponents as the other quarter finals have yet to be played.
